Prescriptions
Non-urgent advice: Ordering repeat prescriptions
You can order repeat prescriptions online without having to make an appointment.
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions online are:
- Using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- If you are registered for online services then you are able to request repeat prescriptions online using the GP online system via the SystmOnline
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
- Fill out a repeat prescriptions request form (repeat slip) and bring it to the surgery. There is a red repeat prescription box wall mounted near the main door, which you can leave your request in, between Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6:30 pm
We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.
Non-urgent advice: Collecting your prescription
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- On the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
- At your GP practice
Usually it takes 2 working days for any repeat prescription requests to be completed.
Processing a prescription request takes time due to the need for a thorough medical review, potential communication with you over this, coordination with pharmacies and ensuring you have had the appropriate safety checks. These factors collectively contribute to the overall duration of the prescription processing but safety is our first priority.
If you have the NHS App you will be able to check the progress of your prescription.
If you are requesting acute medication, it will take up to 5 working days to process your request due to the additional checks required.
It is crucial that you request prescriptions promptly. While the clinic will make every effort to accommodate your needs, we cannot guarantee timely processing, especially during peak periods like before bank holidays or Friday afternoons. Ensuring you request your prescription on time is essential, and we will do our best to ensure a timely fulfillment of your request.
Urgent advice: Travelling abroad
Please inform the surgery if you will be away from the country for more than 2 consecutive months and require repeat medication.
If you request a repeat prescription while abroad, we are not permitted to process that request and therefore it will be cancelled.
Non-urgent advice: Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
Non-urgent advice: About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
Medication reviews
Some patients who have a repeat prescription might be asked to come in for a regular review. If you are one of those patients, the surgery will contact you.

What to do with old or unused medicines
To reduce wastage of medicines, please only order as required.
Please take any unused medication to the pharmacy you received it from and the pharmacist will safely dispose of it.
Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
